Safe SCP Entities: An Unexpectedly Safe Guide to the Extraordinary

Arkane Curiosities

Step into the realm of the SCP Foundation, where the boundaries of reality quiver, and ordinary objects embrace the sublime. SCP stands for Secure, Contain, and Protect. This fictional organization tracks down and catalogs the strangest entities the universe has to offer — a vast collection of objects, creatures, and phenomena that defy the laws of nature as we know them. But not every entity is a danger. A peculiar subset of SCP entities known as “Safe” are just as they sound: less a threat than their more boisterous counterparts. Safe SCP entities are the equivalent of a tea cozy on a thermonuclear bomb or a bowtie on an unruly tornado – utterly peculiar, but remarkably benign.

More Object and Monster

Within this realm of Safe SCPs, the ordinary becomes extraordinary, and the mundane harbors secrets waiting to be discovered. Safe-class SCPs are easy to contain and are little threat to people, as a whole. Typically posing as inanimate objects, they are far from totally harmless. Listed below are some of the more notable Safe Entities.

SCP-085: “Hand-drawn Cassy”, “Cassandra” or “Cassy”

This two-dimensional entity takes the form of a young girl, estimated to be around ten years old. She is a drawing, discovered in an abandoned house along with various other anomalous objects. Cassy’s abilities are confined to the surface of the paper she inhabits, but she can jump from paper to paper, provided they are touching.

Interactions with Cassy are facilitated through written or spoken communication. She can read and respond to written messages and can also communicate verbally through a voice synthesizer. Due to her two-dimensional nature, Cassy is vulnerable to damage and destruction. Any harm inflicted on her drawing affects her directly, causing pain or even potential death.

SCP-426: “I Am A Toaster”

This looks like a typical two-slice toaster, except it only refers to itself in the first person “I am a toaster”. It has the ability to alter the thoughts and self-perception of those who acknowledge its existence. Anyone who stays in its presence for two months will believe that they have become the toaster. Affected individuals genuinely perceive themselves as a toaster, complete with thoughts and emotions befitting an inanimate kitchen appliance.

Those affected will often produce toaster sounds resembling and express concerns related to their “toaster” condition. This includes anxieties about being used improperly, fear of being neglected or discarded, and a longing for toast-based sustenance. They may even attempt to engage in activities typical of a toaster, such as browning slices of bread or begging for crumbs.

SCP-294: “Coffee Machine”

This entity takes the form of an ordinary coffee vending machine, but its capabilities extend far beyond the realm of caffeinated beverages. Equipped with a QWERTY keypad, the machine can dispense and liquid typed in. While its main purpose is to offer beverages, it can also provide non-consumable liquids, such as acids or even more unusual substances like lava or venom.

One remarkable aspect of SCP-294 is its ability to fulfill requests for liquids that should not exist or are unobtainable through conventional means, such as antimatter or tachyons. However, there are limitations to its capabilities. SCP-294 cannot produce living organisms or substances that exceed its internal volume capacity.

SCP-458: “The Never-Ending Pizza Box”

This entity looks exactly like a pizza box from Little Caesar’s (Hot-n-Ready). The instant human hands touch the box, it reads the holders mind, creating the perfect pizza down to the toppings, styles and even dietary restrictions.

The box’s capacity to provide pizza seems limitless, defying the bounds of conventional physics and culinary expectations. No matter how many slices are removed, SCP-458 magically replenishes itself, ensuring that those partaking in its offerings will never go hungry.

SCP-458 can only make pizza and its box is indestructible.

SCP-131: “Eye Pods”

These are a pair of adorable creatures resembling miniature eye-like entities. Each Eye Pod measures approximately 3 inches across with a rubbery outer layer that resembles an eye. They are mobile, possessing a wheel-like protrusion which allows them to move about.

The eye pods communicate with each other with an untranslatable high-pitched babbling. No one has ever observed these eyes blinking, even in laboratories while being videotaped for over 18 consecutive hours.

These entities require no care or feeding from the staff. They don’t even sleep. The only sustenance for these little fellows is visual stimulation.

Safe Entities

The enigmatic nature of these “safe” entities continues to intrigue researchers within the Foundation. They strive to unravel the mysteries surrounding these extraordinary beings.

Unraveling the Veil: The Origins of SCP Entities

Arkane Curiosities

In the darkest recesses of our world, where reality intertwines with the unfathomable, lies a secret organization tasked with containing and studying the most extraordinary and perilous entities known to mankind. Welcome to the realm of the SCP Foundation. Step into a world where the laws of nature unravel, and the impossible becomes tangible. But what exactly are these creatures and what are the origins of SCP entities?

The Birth of the SCP Foundation

The SCP Foundation (which stands for Secure, Contain, Protect) emerged in 2007 in the “paranormal” /x/ forum of 4chan. An anonymous user posted the original thread introducing the concept of the SCP Foundation, a secret organization dedicated to securing, containing, and protecting anomalous entities and phenomena. This user was later identified as Moto42. People expanded on the post and soon a wiki was set up to explore the concept of the SCP Foundation.

To understand the origins of SCP entities, we simply look back to  legends and myths from all over the world. Supernatural beings and unexplained events have always been with us. These stories serve as precursors to the modern SCP entities, hinting at a long history of the abnormal intertwined with human existence.

The First Entity

The annals of the SCP Foundation record the inaugural SCP entity: SCP-001. Often referred to as the “Broken God” or “Gate Guardian,” this entity holds a unique position within the SCP Foundation. It is the subject of intense debate and speculation, with multiple conflicting theories surrounding its true nature.

SCP-001 is a Keter class entity (we’ll explore Keter anomalies in the next post). The Gate Guardian is humanoid in shape and about 700 cubits high (1033 feet). It possessed luminous wings sprouting from its shoulders, back, temples, angles and wrists.

Where Do SCP Entities Come From?

At the core of the SCP Foundation’s universe are the SCP entities themselves. These entities can take the form of objects, creatures, locations, or even abstract concepts. Each SCP entity is assigned a unique identification number and accompanied by a detailed document known as an SCP entry. These entries serve as containment protocols, scientific analysis, and records of incidents related to the respective SCPs.

There is no single source for the development and discover of SCP Entities. Their origins are a who’s who of supernatural and strange.

Natural phenomena: Some SCP entities arise from natural occurrences or anomalies that exist within the fabric of the world. These could be inherent abnormalities in nature or manifestations of unknown forces.

Human-created anomalies: Certain SCP entities are the result of human experimentation, scientific accidents, or the misuse of advanced technologies. These anomalies can possess dangerous and unpredictable characteristics.

Extra-dimensional or inter-dimensional entities: SCP entities may come from alternate dimensions, parallel universes, or realms beyond conventional human perception. These entities often possess abilities or properties that defy the laws of our reality.

Supernatural or mythological origins: SCP entities can be rooted in ancient legends, myths, and folklore. They may be ancient beings, deities, or spirits with immense power and influence.

Extraterrestrial sources: Some SCP entities have extraterrestrial origins, originating from other planets, distant galaxies, or encounters with unidentified flying objects (UFOs). These entities may have arrived on Earth through various means, bringing with them their unique traits and abilities.

Anomalous artifacts or objects: SCP entities can also be tied to anomalous artifacts or objects with mysterious origins. These items may possess inherent properties that give rise to or house the entity within them.

Collaborative Creation

One of the defining aspects of the SCP Foundation project is its collaborative nature. A community of writers and fans passionately contributes to the ongoing development and expansion of the SCP universe. Individuals can create new SCP entities, provide feedback, and engage in discussions. This collaborative approach has led to a diverse and ever-growing collection of SCP entities, each with its own intriguing narrative and characteristics. As of now, there are over 6000 documented entities.

Counting Crows: What the Number of Crows Symbolizes

Arkane Curiosities

Sure, a big flock of crows is a murder. But often you’ll only see a few crows at a time. In some cultures, crows are associated with intelligence, mystery, and magic. The number of crows symbolizes different things, from good luck to death.

One Crow

Crows are linked with the afterlife and death. Seeing a single crow means you have a message from someone recently deceased. This often means bad luck for you.

Two Crows

If one crow means destruction, a pair of crows signifies harmony and good luck. New opportunities are coming your way. A new chapter of your life is about to begin.

Three Crows

Bad luck comes in spades when you see three crows together. Something is going to die. It could be an old relationship. It could mean illness will strike a loved one. At the very least, you’ll get some bad news.

Four Crows

Four crows on the horizon? Cash is coming your way. Four crows symbolizes good luck and prosperity. Maybe a promotion at work or you discover a new source of income. Either way, take advantage of this opportunity. You’re on the right track.

Five Crows

Five crows represents sickness. You or a family member might catch an illness or suffer mental distress.

Six Crows

This is the most powerful bad luck. Six crows? Tread carefully the next few days. You might have something stolen from you… or you can lose your life. Impending doom is on your way with five crows. This moment of destruction will transform everything, possibly leading to a new beginning. The destructive event you face could be a minor bump, like a car accident. Or it could be a full on disaster. In any event, dark days are coming your way.

Any more than six crows and let’s face it, you have a murder of crows.
